- Elected on the Labour Panel, Seanad Election 2007
- Convenor of the Friends of Palestine in the Oireachtas.
- Led parliamentary delegation to Palestine 2005.
- Visited drought areas in Kenya with UNICEF and GOAL projects, 2006.
- Election monitor in Bosnia-Herzegovina, 1998.
- In 1999, established Kosovo Refugee Aid; appointed Project Co-ordinator.
