                  Summary of my work in Seanad Éireann 2002-2010
                  • Initiated and drafted the Registration of Wills Bill 2005. Passed all stages in Seanad Éireann. This was the first private members bill initiated by a Government Senator.
                  • Achieved a better deal for Councillors
                  • Was active in the establishment of Consultative Health Forum.
                  • In support of the campaign for Undocumented Irish citizens in the USA
                  • Backed the creation of Joint Policing committees. Requested the Minister to extend pilot scheme to the rest of the country.
                  • Alternative Member of the British-Irish Inter-Parliamentary Body.
                  • Member of Joint Committee on Broadcasting and Parliamentary Information,
                  • Member of Joint Committee on Enterprise and Small Business, which prepared reports leading to the establishment of the Personal Injuries Assessment Board.
                  • Backed the creation of the Ombudsman for the Defence Forces.
                  • Launched ‘name and shame’ consumer campaign.
                  • Voted Magill Senator of the Year 2006
                  • Elected on the Labour Panel, Seanad Election 2007
                  Human Rights
                  • Convenor of the Friends of Palestine in the Oireachtas.
                  • Led parliamentary delegation to Palestine 2005.
                  • Visited drought areas in Kenya with UNICEF and GOAL projects, 2006.
                  • Election monitor in Bosnia-Herzegovina, 1998.
                  • In 1999, established Kosovo Refugee Aid; appointed Project Co-ordinator.
